No syrups or pre-made mixes needed in these Frozen Strawberry Margaritas.

A better-for-you cocktail that is lower in sugar and made with real food ingredients. We were inspired to create and share this recipe thanks to our popular Frozen Pineapple Margaritas that hit the blog last summer and that everyone loved! We know you’ll love these Frozen Strawberry Margaritas just as much.

They take just 10 minutes to make and contain MUCH less sugar than if you were to purchase a pre-made strawberry margarita mix. In fact, one 8 ounce serving of our Frozen Strawberry Margaritas contains just 14 grams of sugar as compared to pre-made mixes, which of the ones we looked at, come in at 50+ grams of sugar per 8 ounce serving! That’s roughly 13 teaspoons of sugar. No thank you!

Ingredients for Frozen Strawberry Margarita Recipe

A few simple ingredients are all you need to make this delicious summer cocktail!

  • Frozen unsweetened strawberries – you’ll need 1 bag of frozen strawberries or one pound. If you would like to use fresh strawberries you’ll want to be sure it’s 1 pound after the stems have been removed and they should also be frozen.
  • Orange juice and lime juice – while you can use store-bought juice, we love freshly squeezed for the best flavor and it really only takes a minute with a manual juicer.
  • Sweetener of choice – agave nectar or honey
  • Tequila – as with the Low-Sugar Paloma and Frozen Pineapple Margaritas, we like to use tequila Blanco (or silver) in this recipe for its clean and smooth taste.
  • Coarse salt or coconut sugar or a mix – while optional, a little coarse salt, or coconut sugar or a mix on the rim complements the naturally sweet flavors of the strawberries and citrus. Plus it looks pretty, too!
  • Ice
  • Optional garnishes – Strawberry, lime wedges, and/or fresh mint.

How to make The Best Frozen Strawberry Margaritas without a lot of sugar

Because fresh strawberries are naturally sweet on their own and make up the bulk of this recipe, the need for all of the extra sugar is truly unnecessary. A little bit of agave nectar or honey does the trick and adds just enough sweetness to make these margaritas a real, ‘healthified’ treat. To make this recipe…..

  1. Juice the limes and oranges with a juicer or manual juicer.
  2. Add the juices, frozen strawberries, agave, ice, and tequila to a blender and blend until smooth.
  3. To serve, rim four glasses with coarse salt or coconut sugar or a mix. To do this, pour a little coarse salt (or sugar or a mix) into a shallow bowl or dish. Take a wedge of lime and run it around the rim of each glass and invert the glasses, one at a time, into the salt and twist the glass back and forth a few times.
  4. Fill each glass with the blended margarita.
  5. If you wish, add a lime slice and/or fresh strawberry slice to the rim of the glass and top with a fresh mint leaf.

Time-saving, make-ahead tip:

Feel free to squeeze the juices up to 24 hours prior to blending the margaritas. Store the juice in a covered mason jar or airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to use.

How to make a Frozen Strawberry Margarita Mocktail

If you’re looking for a cool and refreshing drink for summer that does not contain alcohol, these Frozen Strawberry Margaritas are perfect for you! Simply substitute the tequila for lime-flavored sparkling water (such as La Croix) and you’ll have yourself a delicious mocktail to sip on.

Why are these Frozen Strawberry Margaritas better for you?

There are two main reasons why these margaritas are better for you as compared to what you might order at a restaurant or what is found in the pre-made mixes. Our better-for-you Frozen Strawberry Margaritas are….

  • Made with MUCH less sugar than if you were to purchase a pre-made strawberry margarita mix (which is often what restaurants use, too). While this is the most convenient and easy option, you may want to think twice. One 8 ounce serving of our Frozen Strawberry Margaritas contains just 14 grams of sugar as compared to pre-made mixes, which of the ones we looked at, come in at 50+ grams per 8 ounce serving – roughly 13 teaspoons of sugar!
  • Made with REAL FOOD ingredients. Let’s compare! Most pre-made mixes contain very little actual strawberries. To give you an example, here are the ingredients found in a popular pre-made strawberry margarita mix:
    • Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Strawberry Puree, Strawberry Puree from Concentrate, Sugar, Lime Juice from Concentrate, Citric Acid, Xanthan Gum, Natural Flavors, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Metabisulfite, FD&C Red #40, FD&C Blue #1.
