What is chocolate hummus? Chocolate hummus is a dessert hummus that’s made with garbanzo beans (like classic hummus), but has cocoa powder and maple syrup.

What does chocolate hummus taste like?

This chocolate hummus tastes exactly like brownie batter. You’d never know it’s made from garbanzo beans because it’s perfectly sweet and chocolatey.

PS: while the consistency resembles classic hummus, it doesn’t taste anything like it!

Healthy Ingredients

  • Garbanzo Beans: the base of this dessert hummus is garbanzo beans! Make sure to drain and rinse before using.
  • Almond Butter: almond butter helps make this super creamy.
  • Cocoa Powder: cocoa powder is what adds the “chocolate.”
  • Maple Syrup: we love using maple syrup as an all-natural sweetener. Maple adds warmth and sweetness.
  • Water: water helps thin things out to make it dippable.
  • Vanilla: vanilla enhances that yummy chocolate flavor.
  • Salt: a pinch of salt brings out all those yummy sweet, warm flavors.

Ingredient Swaps

Maple syrup > use honey or agave nectar instead of maple syrup.

Almond Butter > any kind of nut butter will work. To get a cookie dough flavor, use cashew butter, and if you love peanut butter cups, use peanut butter!

Cocoa Powder > try using cacao powder instead.

How to Make Chocolate Hummus

Assemble Ingredients

Place all of the ingredients into a high-speed food processor. We suggest starting with 2 tablespoons of water and going up from there depending on what kind of consistency you like.

Blend Ingredients

Blend chocolate hummus on high until smooth. Give the hummus a taste and adjust the maple syrup. If it’s too thick, add more water by the teaspoon to thin it out.

Quick tip!

Depending on how thick you like your dessert hummus, add water as needed to thin your hummus out.

Can I use a blender instead?

Don’t have a food processor? Feel free to use a high-speed blender instead. You may need to stop and scrape the sides, but it should work just fine!
